AI Policy

My policy on generative AI and large language models (LLMs) can be summed up in one of my favorite Charles Hayward quotes: “For when the last best words have been said for the machine it has no marvel compared to the marvel of the human hand guided by the human mind.” The bottom line is this: If I couldn’t be bothered to write it myself, then why should you bother reading it?

Writing: I do not use, and will never use, AI for writing. All the text on this site, whether it’s stories, image captions, tables, lists, FAQs, or footnotes is human-written. If I quote an AI (like I Trained an AI Chatbot on Antique Plane Research), it is clearly identified.

Images and video: I do not use AI-generated images, charts, graphs, or diagrams. The only exceptions are the AI research story and the post with terrifying AI-generated planes. They are clearly labeled as such. I do not use AI-generated content in my videos.

Research: I may use LLMs to transcribe interviews, parse or analyze data, and translate content. Any data analysis is human-verified.

Editing: I use gramma/LanguageTool for proofreading. I do not use AI for fact checking or content editing.
