This newsletter is a love letter to wooden hand planes. It’s a love letter to using 200-year-old planes, to making things with our hands, to collecting rare planemakers, to the tangible connection we share with the generations of woodworkers who’ve used our tools.

I’m Abraham Hyatt, carpenter and veteran journalist. I live with my wife and two kids in the Santa Cruz Mountains on the coast of California, where I’m currently remodeling our 85-year-old home. If you’re in the area, stop by my shop and we’ll nerd out on planes.

If you’d like help setting up your plane, or learning how to use different kinds of wooden planes, sign up for a free, private, one-on-one video session.
